Bilateral power trading deals among SASEC countries should gradually expand. A single interconnected power market would be a clear win for the subregion.
Mr. Wijayatunga joined ADB in 2008. He has contributed extensively in energy sector policy and regulatory activities over 25 years, and has co-authored over 75 publications. Mr. Wijayatunga was the founding Director General of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, and a lead author of the Sri Lanka Energy Policies and Strategies and the Sri Lanka Initial National Communication on Climate Change. He was also a Senior Professor of Electrical Engineering and Chairman of the South Asia Forum for Infrastructure Regulation. Mr. Wijayatunga is a member of the Institute of Engineering Technology in London and of the US Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, as well as a Chartered Electrical Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers in Sri Lanka.
