ADB Vice-President Stephen Groff looks back on the Thailand-ADB relationship and outlines areas for future cooperation, including the Thailand 4.0 initiative.
In 1968, ADB’s first loan was to Thailand’s Industrial Finance Corporation to provide medium- and long-term loans to industrial enterprises.
That loan helped lay the foundation for the country’s manufacturing boom in the 1980s and early 1990s. It also launched a long and deep development partnership.
Thai Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong and Mr. Groff recently led celebrations of 50 years of collaboration in Bangkok.
