Senior Disaster and Climate Risk Financing Specialist, ADB Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department

Brigitte is tasked to contribute to the financial management of disaster and climate risk across ADB’s developing member countries by working with ADB’s operational departments to prepare and implement respective solutions. Her primary responsibilities include developing disaster and climate risk financing approaches, conducting disaster risk assessments and providing policy advise. 

Brigitte is an international risk manager with over 13 years of professional experience in financial services pertaining to disaster financing, risk transfer, and sustainability. Before joining ADB, Brigitte was a freelance consultant working with organizations in the public and private sectors in the field of climate risk insurance providing support for innovative insurance and risk transfer solutions. Previously, she had been leading the risk and accumulation strategy as well as capacity monitoring, catastrophe modelling and scenario testing of Helvetia Specialty Lines in Basel, Switzerland. Brigitte had commenced her career with Gallagher Re (former Willis Re), London, in 2009 where she had managed the catastrophe analytics team for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. During that time, she had also been working for the climate research hub of the Willis Research Network in the context of which she had been seconded to the UNDRR to contribute to the Global Assessment Report 2011. Brigitte is a German national and holds a post-graduate degree in Mathematics, Geography and Instructional Design from the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg (Germany) and Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain).
